My outfit recommendations
One of the most frequently asked questions I get is: “What should I wear for the underwater photoshoot?”
With this article, I want to give you some general rules of thumb and recommendations on what to wear during my photoshoots.
Although these guidelines work most times, sometimes we can get very original and unique results by getting creative and breaking those rules.
So feel free to try something unusual and out of the ordinary!

The photos above show a good example of an outfit that worked really well for the underwater photoshoot. Hooda chose a lovely piece that ticks all the boxes of an ideal outfit for an underwater photoshoot:
bright and solid color
long and flowy
shiny fabric
can be worn in many different ways
Find this exact piece here.
I have been super into white recently! I love the ethereal look that white gives to an image and the way it reflects the light!
The pieces that Dani and Amber are wearing in the previous photos are made by a local brand called Mamba.
I love the concept behind the brand: it supports sustainable slow-fashion, by creating versatile pieces that can be worn in many ways to adapt to different occasions.
They are all made locally in Mexico and their style suits perfectly the mood that I like to give to my images.
On top of being beautiful dresses that suit most body types, you will get a discount when you buy a Mamba piece to wear during one of my underwater photoshoots!
Check out their IG page to see the available colors.
Skirts work really well too!
You can combine them with a swimsuit, a top, or… nothing at all!
Chiffon works great, check this skirt out for example. I love tulle too, dresses and skirts!
Make sure it’s long and wide. Short and tight skirts don’t work as well, and you won’t move comfortably in the water.
The long kimonos and cover-ups are another amazing prop for underwater photoshoots!
You can tie them up at the front, depending on how much skin you want to show, or let them loose, for a more flowy effect!
I’d definitely recommend choosing a bright color for kimonos and pareos. They are often made of very thin and semi-transparent fabrics. If you combine that with a dark color, your piece is going to fade out with the darker backgrounds of the cenote.
For a maternity shoot, we want to have all the focus on - you guessed it - the baby bump!
I’d recommend for you to bring a maternity dress that leaves the belly uncovered, like this one or this strapless piece.
Some other options that work are, again, cover-ups and kimonos! You can wear a simple bikini, add the kimono for a touch of flowyness, job done! Check this one out.
If you are shooting with the future dad as well, I’d recommend for him to keep the outfit simple. A total white outfit works, or simple dark pants and white shirt, or swim shorts and no top.
If you are planning a couple’s photoshoot, make sure your outfits work well with each other. They don’t need to be completely matching, but you want to at least have a similar style.
Remember, “less is more”. Avoid a fashion disaster by keeping the outfits simple.
One of the best ways to do so is to keep his outfit as minimalistic as possible and add a splash of color by wearing a vibrant dress.
You can have fun with props, like mermaid tails, wings, crowns, and more!
